A Warm Feeling

SHINE students at the Mahanoy Elementary Center have developed a special relationship with the members of a local knitting club.

Students model the hats given to them by the Mahanoy City Nifty Knitters.

Students at the Mahanoy SHINE Center follow along as a member from the local knitting club reads them a story.

Members from the Mahanoy City Nifty Knitters visit the center during the winter holiday season to help students try their hand at various crafts. Students can work on presents to give to family or friends – or as a special treat for themselves.

After the lessons, the club members read a holiday tale to the students.

Perhaps best of all, the Nifty Knitters brings their own gifts for the students. Students can pick from a selection of hand-knit hats to wear out into the cold weather.

It is our privilege to work with the SHINE program each year. During the holidays, we always read a story, plan an activity, and present each child with a gift of a hand knitted hat and candy treat. It is the highlight of our year!"
