Kindergarten Program

The SHINE Kindergarten Program is for children in who need a jump start in reading & math readiness skills. Entry into the SHINE Program will be determined by you the parent, kindergarten teachers, and the school district. The kindergarten program includes a weekly visit to your home by a SHINE teacher. Through home visits, parents are involved in their child’s activities, informed of their child’s progress and provided creative strategies to work with their children.

There is no cost for the SHINE program.  

Children can begin the program as early as 6 months before they enter kindergarten.


What will they learn?

· Letter & Number Recognition

· Sound Association

· Matching Quantities to  numbers

· Sight Words

· Reading, writing, and mathematics

· Hands on activities, games, and  puzzles

· Homework tutoring


Students will receive home visits throughout the summer to maintain what they have learned and prepare them for first grade.



√ Children whose kindergarten assessment indicates needing support in reading and math readiness skills will be visited by a home visitor/teacher.

√ SHINE helps to alleviate stress by providing confidence to children in their skills and abilities.
