Tying It All Together in Weatherly

SHINE teaches the importance of giving back to the community throughout the whole year. But each year, just before the winter break, SHINE Centers work on one project they can "gift" to local organizations.

In December 2019, students at the new SHINE Center in Weatherly worked on creating fleece blankets. Students helped to select which fabrics to use, measure and cut the fabric, and assemble the final product.

While the students were hard at work, SHINE teachers were able to discuss the project and talk about the different community organizations that might need a warm, fuzzy donation like theirs.

The students decided to donate their finished blankets to the Heritage Hill Senior Center and were thrilled to learn that their gifts found happy homes with seniors who were not able to have family visit them during the holiday
